Novak Djokovic was fired from the US Open on Sunday for hitting an official during the match. World number one Djokovic lost to Spain’s Pablo Carreno Busta 5-6 in the first set, after which he threw a ball in the direction of the female official. The ball hit the female officer’s neck. Djokovic ran towards the officer to check if he was okay, and after a few minutes, the female officer got up and left the court.

After about ten minutes of discussion with the tournament referee, the referee announced that Carreno Busta had won the match. Before leaving court, Djokovic shook hands with Carreno Busta. Serbian star Djokovic became the third player to be eliminated from Grand Slam history. Previously, John McEnroe was dropped at the Australian Open in 1990 and Stephen Kobek at the French Open in 2000.
